The early days of the coronavirus lockdown coincided with the perfect time to tend to the garden as it comes into Spring. People around the world are turning to gardening as a soothing, family friendly hobby that bonds children and adults together of all ages.
Whether you are just starting out to learn about fruit and vegetables or flowering plants or are already a seasoned gardener, there is no better time than now to spend time in the garden as it comes alive again after winter (a notion we can relate to after being isolated and cooped up in our homes).
Spring is arguably the busiest time of the year to sow seeds, planning the look of borders and getting a start on mowing and weeding. If you need inspiration, two wonderful garden centres in Sintra will give plenty of ideas.

Before choosing, speak to a member of staff. Although close in distance, the climate differs between Sintra and coastal towns along the Rio Tejo (Tagus River), the air in Sintra is more humid due to the high elevation. You will also need to mention if the plant will be exposed to wind from the Atlantic (Sintra beaches to the Guincho are prime spots) or if it will be sheltered? There are beautiful plants and trees, just make sure to choose the right ones!

A stunning choice to plant at your entrance, a prolific flowering plant with gorgeous tall purple flowers. It is low maintenance but high on impact, requiring minimal watering and attention. In ideal conditions (full sun), it can grow up to 3 metres tall and 2 metres wide. Just make sure to plant either at the back of garden beds where it will not over shade daintier plants or along a walkway or on slopes giving it plenty of space to grow and and come alive season after season!
