If you’ve arrived in Cascais and you already know you will need support for a medical condition or require a consultation - you are able to contact a medical specialist directly without going through your GP.

Specialists operate through hospital and clinics or on their own premises, and the costs of treatment and medication can in part be reimbursed by health insurance companies. If you plan on using your E111 card as you are temporarily visiting Portugal, be prepared to pay the consultation in full as a 'Particular'. You will then need to check with the EU country you are resident in regarding claims.

Where to go?

This is a matter of personal preference and which one is the closest to your home, place of work or child's school should factor. Travelling in rush hours can add a considerable time to your journey. Allow for traffic delays if you are travelling on the Marginal, A5 or IC19.

Portuguese Healthcare

Anyone that is resident in Portugal is entitled to state healthcare which can be accessed through a local Centro de Saúde. In general, the healthcare services are heavily subsidised but there may be a small charge for treatment. For certain groups, example children or the elderly, treatment may be completely free.
